Power In The Blood

Livingston First Church

Leviticus 17:10-11

10 “And if any native Israelite or foreigner living among you eats or drinks blood in any form, I will turn against that person and cut him off from the community of your people, 11 for the life of the body is in its blood. I have given you the blood on the altar to purify you, making you right with the Lord.[e] It is the blood, given in exchange for a life, that makes purification possible.

Hebrews 10:9

26 Dear friends, if we deliberately continue sinning after we have received knowledge of the truth, there is no longer any sacrifice that will cover these sins. 27 There is only the terrible expectation of God’s judgment and the raging fire that will consume his enemies. 28 For anyone who refused to obey the law of Moses was put to death without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29 Just think how much worse the punishment will be for those who have trampled on the Son of God, and have treated the blood of the covenant, which made us holy, as if it were common and unholy, and have insulted and disdained the Holy Spirit who brings God’s mercy to us.

The power of the blood of Jesus must never be understated in our meetings and teaching.  It is His blood that cleanses us and gives us new life. Without the blood of Jesus we are hopeless and dead in our sin. When we don’t understand the importance of the blood of Jesus and how it is vital in our faith life we run the danger of being non-chalant towards the blood of Christ or maybe even becoming indifferent to its effect in our life. Without the blood there is no hope. When we are apathetic about Jesus’s blood and our sin we can even offend and insult the Holy Spirit.

When we think about our own blood it is vital that we treat it in our own physical bodies with care and high consideration.

For instance, our own blood carries our DNA and bestows our created identity from Father God. Our own blood carries oxygen, water and protein through our bodies giving us life as does the Holy Spirit breathing and living within us. Blood is also the currency for redemption, as outlined in Leviticus and other places in the Scriptures. The greater the price for purification and redemption the more blood that is required. All the blood of a dove for an individual, all the blood of an ox for a community, and of course, all of the Holy blood of God for all of the sin of humanity. This is why it was necessary for the perfect blood of Jesus to be poured out on the cross once and for all. God was willing to sacrifice Himself through the life of Jesus so that we could be purified through repentance and the application of His blood over our lives. This is the high and holy purpose of blood and why it is so important the people of Israel never carelessly consume the blood of any sacrifice. This is why it is of highest importance that we take care to never trample or discard care for the blood of the greatest sacrifice, Jesus. His blood was shed once and for all to bring us clean before the Father. Jesus, whose blood made a way for us to live by the power of the Holy Spirit, whose blood now runs through our veins and makes us partakers of God’s eternal family.

Thank Jesus for the blood that washed us from our sin, and made us white as snow.

I have over the years made it daily practice to thank God for the blood of Jesus. I spend time daily covering myself, my family, our business and of course you the Church body, and all the Church ministries in its wonder-working power. Of course, this is a spiritual discipline and there is no physical blood involved in this prayer. I simply pray as follows…

“Jesus thank you for your blood over my life, I apply and cover the Church in your blood and I thank you that your blood washes us of our sin and covers us from the attack of the enemy, in Jesus name Amen”.

I believe this prayer is powerful and does things in the spiritual realm far beyond what we can perceive physically. I encourage you to take time also to thank Jesus for His blood.

Love,

Pastor John
